Planning Kiddie Parties in a budget - Manila

First, my apologies for not posting for a really long time! If you are a mom with a very energetic son, you will definitely understand, hahaha!
Aidan has been very active (typical 2 yr old). If I may say, my son never learned to walk, he ran! He runs in the sala, he runs in the bedroom, he runs in our compound. So now you know.
So much of my intro. Going back to topic, I had a lot of inquiries (from friends, from Husband’s friends, from relatives, etc.) on how much we have spent on Aidan’s first birthday. A lot were impressed that I have kept it in the 50-60k amount, considering that we had a magician, lots of game prizes, loot bags and food carts.
You see, I love planning. Planning our wedding was one of the best times of my life so it was not put to rest on planning our son’s first birthday bash. I love researching, inquiring, and learning when it comes to planning celebrations that I am usually the go-to person when it comes to events by people close to me.
So for this past event, I have inquired a lot of party packages. First, I set my requirements. And they are:
1) Free place rental or below 5k venue rental – As my budget was set to 50k, I need to find a place that includes the venue. Initially I tried looking for an events place within QC that has a lower than 10k rental but I failed, most of them are price 15k above and I cannot waste that amount of money just for the venue. I might as well spend that on food.
2) Near my place – I was willing to expand my search up to Pasig only and it has to be near EDSA as we are from North and most of my guests are from South or somewhere in Manila.
3) Affordable package – Has to be around 300/head.
FYI, I scrapped adding McDonald’s and Jollibee here, as I find (my personal opinion, note that) their food to be too common to invite people to be there. Families can eat there anytime so my thinking is why should I invite people who lived far to eat their usual meals? No offense ha, but that is just my stand. J
So, if my requirements met yours, here are my current list:

1) Prestige Tower Ortigas
(Image from http://storiesofafirst-time-mom.blogspot.hk/2011/10/party-venues.html)

Prestige Tower Deck,,F. Ortigas, Jr. Road (formerly Emerald Ave.), Ortigas Center, Pasig City
Telephone No.: 910-6361
Contact Person: Shalou Jalandoni

Why we did not get this place: I cannot seem to remove the fact in mind that someone had her suicide on this building. But that is just me. Don’t mind me.
2) Kenny Rogers Quezon Ave. branch

Contact info: Quezon Ave. cor. Scout Albano St., Brgy South Triangle, Quezon City

Why we did not get this place: I was able to attend a party here with my niece. They have their parties sa 2nd floor. But, they can only accommodate 70pax, my target was 100pax.
3) Ristorante Big Oli, Eastwood
image from http://www.lynne-enroute.com
Contact info: Eastwood Cityalk 1, Libis, Quezon City

Why we did not get this place : The traffic in Eastwood in December made me think twice.
4) Don Henrico’s West Ave. branch
West Avenue cor. Examiner St., Quezon City
Tel. Nos.: 371-7171 ; 372-7272 ; 372-3777

Why we did not get this place: This was actually our first choice, as my family loves their buffalo wings. Howecer, they will still be renovating on our chosen date.
And the winner is:
5) Shakey’s Quezon Ave. branch
Lot 3 Blk. W-39-E Quezon Ave. corner Abad Santos St Brgy. Sta. Cruz Heroes Hills Quezon City
Why we got this place:
Price : Made our budget (Just meet the 15k amount and you will have a free venue)
Location : Easy access from EDSA, West Ave and Quezon Ave. So that covered North, West and South!
They have 3 function rooms that can accomodate 150pax or more I think. Corkage was pretty steep BUT since my venue is free, that is negligible to me as I only have 2 carts.

And you don't usually eat at Shakeys, right? :)

Aidan's 1st Rockstar Birthday Party - Supplier's Ratings & Kwentos

Oh my! I was never able to keep my promise to post more update prior to Aidan's birthday. Things got superrr busy, so I will not keep you waiting with my blabbers.

5 stars = Highest rating
4 stars = Very good, met our expectations
3 stars = Good, met expectations
2 stars = A lot of bloopers! Tried their best.
1 star = Try looking for another supplier for your own sanity!

Venue & Food = Shakey's Quezon Ave.
https://www.shakeyspizza.ph
Price : 25k inclusive of food (10 monster meals), 2hr use of venue, and 2k corkage for my 2 foodcarts
Rating : 2 stars

Hmm. I have been ranting & ranting about this supplier on forums, please heed my warning.

Our time slot is 4-6PM where there is a 1hr in between for ingress & egress of the party you will follow. We arrived 3:30 due to the traffic on West Ave. from our place and I saw that the party is still on going! I asked my husband to look for a person to talk to and he keeps getting passed to a different person. He looked for the manager and that's when I decided to take matters on my hand. Kahit high blood na ako (obvious talaga kasi kahit kumare ko told me to calm down) I asked calmly kung late ba ang sinundan namin. The manager answered, hindi po. As in yun lang ang sagot nya. So I inquired more, "So bakit hindi pa kami pwede makapag-setup? Bakit late na sila?" Sagot lang nya "Kasi po iba ang kinuha nilang host". I was like, so problema ko ba yun??? I told them ano na ang gagawin nyo eh andito na ang mga bisita ko dapat kanina pa nakasetup ang balloon supplier ko. No apology was verbally made, he just said they will allow us to extend. I told myself to calm down na lang ang focus on other things.

The cheap price I got is not worth the high blood I got! I would advise that if you decide to push through on this place, be there more than an hour early and pester them to tell the party before you to end on time.

Thank goodness the food was plenty and cheap, kungdi 1 star lang sila. Hmp!

Photo/Video : Shuttercount Photography
http://www.facebook.com/shuttercountworks
Price : 11,500 photo service, edited softcopies, video, mtv teaser video & edited video of whole event.
Rating : 4 stars

I found about Shuttercount via FemaleNetwork. I was supposed to get my officemate for photos kaso mapapagastos ako pag hiwalay pa so I decided to get them for both.

On the event, they are very nice people, Benj & Rayan. I love how they act unobtrusive, and whenever they need something from me they present solutions agad. Which made them a hassle free supplier, unlike Shakeys. Hmp. Hahaha!

After the event, I got to see our video teaser a week after, i was so happy & impressed! ganda ng quality, I like the shots taken, song was very apt sa mood ng video.

Medyo natagalan nga lang kami na makuha yung soft copies ng photos at video. Parang kung di pa nga tatawagan ni Albert eh di namin malalaman kung ipapadala na. Arrived yesterday via Xend. In fairness, apologetic naman sila and i did not actually mind waiting as long as ok ang output. =)

3) The Pastry Garden Bakeshop
https://www.facebook.com/ThePastryGardenBakeshop
Price : 3,300 for two layer cake all edible cake, inclusive of candle & delivery (for QC area only)
Rating : 5 Stars

I can definitely say I am a certified suki na ni Ms. Ruby. I just love her cakes! Yummy, moist, not too sweet! I got a two layer all edible cake from her, all chocolate flavored. I just gave her my peg for the look of the cake and that's it! Nagdala pa ako sa office nung Monday after and a lot of people asked me where I bought the cake, sarap daw. =)

4) YnaChiz Balloons & Party Needs
http://www.facebook.com/ynachiz.balloons
Price : 3500 for the balloons, i forgot na sa tarp pero less 500 lang ata
rating: 5 stars

Dianne, the owner is my gradeschool classmate. I got her packages after inquiring for a friend. Gusto ko kasi hindi masyadong mahal pero decorative pa rin. She also printed the tarp for the door entrance & parang concert backdrop. So she met my expectations. :)

5) Sweet Services Food Carts
https://www.facebook.com/SweetServices-Party-Foodcarts/
Price : 6,200 k for Hotdog & Ice cream carts (TJ hotdogs & FIC Ice cream with 2 gourmet flavors)
Rating : 5 stars

Sold out ang hotdog, obviously masarap! I love FIC Ice cream!

6) Magician/Host : Bon Joker (Melbourne Javier)
Price : 5k
Rating : 5 stars

He was early sa venue, he got the audience attention & the kids loved his tricks so I recommend him! =)

6) Aidan's outfit : Polo from MotherCare (P700), Pants from Landmark (P300)
Daddy & Mommy : Blouse lang ang binili ko, sa CacheCache (P1200).
Rating : 5 stars hehe

Si hubby may jacket nang parang rakista so tipid kami hehe. Borrowed my sister's boots na lang.

7) Toy prizes, Lootbags, ID tag & ID case : Divisoria (Andings, et al)
Price : Estimated ko 5,000
Rating : 5 out of 5 syempre haha!

For my budget na 5k, nabili ko lahat. 100 per lootbag ang budget ko and nameet ko sya. It has toy guitar, small tamborine, shades, notepad & pen. We just bought the reusable bag din sa Divi. Ako na rin nagprint ng gift tag.

For the game prizes, I just bought yung mga 3 or 4 for P100 na toys na makita ko hehe.

Name tag/ID printout : Fujifilm Megamall
Price : P6.00 per piece, plus P50 for cutting
Rating : 5 out of 5 syempre haha!

Backstage pass ala concert ang peg ko so I had this edited by my good friend Mitch (kumare). I just bought the ID plastic case & ID lace din sa Divi. So cute!

Dessert buffet : c/o my kumareng Kate Carlos
Rating : 5 stars
Price : friendly rate eh, cant disclose. :)

Soldout ito sa kids & kids at heart!  =) she gave me a friendly rate para gift na rin nya kay Aidan, inaanak ko kasi anak nya. We've been college mates so alam ko nang career ito ng friend ko. Hehe!

Ayan, natapos din! ang saya ko talaga (masaya din si hubby pero I cant seem to get over haha) kasi nameet ko yung projected budget namin tapos masaya ang mga bisita. Si Dhakey's lang talaga ang panira, haha! Pero wala talagang perfect event, ang dami kong natutunan dito kaya if ever Aidan will have another brother/sister, I will still do the same. =)

Updates

Sorry blog if I was not able to update you the last few months. Things have been pretty busy.

We just transferd to our own home:

Some of of our items need to be disposed either they are too big (dining table) and not being used (single seater sofas) to have more space. Salamat sa Sulit.com.ph, and I was able to sell them on a reasonable price. Ambilis pa, as in in a few days may buyer na ako. Naipangdagdag ko pa sa panggastos ko.

My husband and I are so happy & content! Imagine, Aidan came and we are now paying for our own house, on a good location pa. Lord, my family cannot thak You enough. Just keep as safe & healthy always.

Being the House Manager, I had to do a lot of decision making. Especially on financial terms. Hahaha! Good thing I was able to juggle everything.

We now celebrated Aidan's 8th & 9th month here too.

As for our little boss, Aidan is now eating like a normal person. Rice & viands! Except if we eat fish, tokwa & munggo of course due to his G6PD.

Few more months, and he is 1 year old! Goodness, how time flies!

Thanks for the W@wie in me, almost all of our suppliers are booked:
- venue/food
- photo/video
- food cart
- cake

Sana before magstart yung party ay makapag-update pa ako ulit.
