Just want to share this story, this actually happened to my husband more than a month ago.
It was a payday, so for us usual employees, it is time to withdraw our salary. I asked my husband to withdraw so we can have dinner at Trinoma. He finds it a hassle to withdraw a few amount, so what he does is he withdraws it full. The thing is, he was not able to count the whole amount, as I advised him not to seeing all the people passing by. Then we hurried to have our dinner, and decided to go home early. When we were doing some accounting of the money, he noticed he is short of 1000. We were both sure of the amount we used, as we just had dinner and bought nothing else, so he decided to call the bank. We provided the time & place where we made the withdrwal, and the CSR of the bank said they make an investigation. Unfortunately, they said that the ATM was in correct in its withdrawals for that day. Definitelty, we were both pissed off (1000 din yun ha! Pero we just have the report escalated pero no action was done.
My husband related this story to his officemate to warn them, and the thing is it also happened to one of his officemates. Good thing she noticed that she was short of 500, and she made quite a scene in front of the ATM area. What happened was, the next person who made the withdrawal was the one who got the missing 500 bucks. And was honest enough to give it to her.
So guys, what we learned from this experience is:
- Not to withdraw the full amount in areas full of people. Better to do it in the bank, for added security. That is if you have this option. Better safe than sorry.
- Count the money before you leave. And if in case it happens to you, make sure to notify the bank and check if the next person who made a withdrawal got the correct amount.
